1. Announcement
Clay Kaufman will be teaching in Turkey on a
Fullbright for the school year 2000-2001. Congratulations, Clay , and many, many
thanks for a great job in leading ISMAW for the last two terms.
2.
Treasurer's Report was distributed at the meeting; contact Betsy Bennett if you
need to obtain a copy. In order to continue to pay for the upper school math
meet questions, base dues for 2000-2001 were raised from $30 to $50.
3.
Today's Meeting - Fran Young of GDS is retiring after many years of service to
GDS as well as to ISMAW. We will miss her and we wish her well!
Textbook
lists were distributed along with Upper School Math Meet Results for Meets 5 and
6.
Peter Kelley at St. Albans knows of two math/science candidates.
Contact him at St. Albans if you are still looking for teachers for the fall.
Matt Frattali of Queen Anne is looking for a math position in the
district.
Buzz may not be available to write upper school math meet
questions for next year since he's been cast in a Broadway play, so the search
is on for a new question-writer. Do you know anybody who might be interested in
doing this? Contact Clay. We've been paying $1000 per year for this service.
Clay may have some contacts, and Joan suggested Richard Brady.
Karen Dee
Michalowicz did a fabulous presentation of the old math books - some were 400
years old!! She had several for us to look through. A great job, Karen - thanks
for sharing your incredible expertise in this area!!
To continue to
welcome new schools to ISMAW, the first meeting in the fall (Thursday, September
21st at Maret) will be "Bring a friend" Meeting. We ask that each member school
bring a person from another school. The agenda for the upcoming year will be set
at this meeting (along with the dates of subsequent meetings), which will be an
exciting task, and the more people we have, the greater the possibility of
interesting topics and involvement of new schools.
We also need two more
persons to assume leadership positions for 2000-2002 (a two-year term). Please,
please, please!!!!! This organization is run by volunteers - help us out here!
We ask that each school consider contributing to the continuing existence of
this group. We all agreed that it is definitely a group worth hanging on to - so
volunteer to be President or Secretary!!!!! Contact, Clay, Karen, or Betsy!! Our
term is up!! Nancy Wright has generously offered to be the new
Treasurer.
Dinner was served. Many thanks to Penni and Karen for
organizing the feast!!
